March is National Agriculture Month! It’s a time to celebrate all the hard work and dedication that farmers put into feeding the world. It’s also a time to learn more about agriculture and the important role it plays in our lives. Here at Agfinity, we want to take the time to thank farmers everywhere for everything they do. We are #AgProud.
Colorado Agriculture
Did you know that Colorado has a rich agricultural history? Agriculture is responsible for more than $40 billion in economic activity each year in our state. That’s why it’s important to celebrate National Agriculture Month! If you’ve ever flown out of DIA or driven down I-25, chances are you’ve noticed the many farms and agriculture businesses all over the Centennial State.
Cattle is the largest agricultural commodity in Colorado. Our state also ranks in the top 10 states for crops like barley, alfalfa hay, peaches, and more. With cattle being one of Colorado’s top ag ventures, dairy products are also heavily produced in the state as well.
We have the honor of serving many of these hard-working farmers, ranchers, and agriculturists. You see, it all began during the 1900s in Eaton, Colorado. Eaton was and still is a rich agricultural area famous for producing Neshannock potatoes. However, even with a thriving potato crop, farmers were still struggling to make ends meet, mainly because dealers received half of the profit just for storing the crop. Farmers were doing all the labor and risking crop failure for only half the profits. So, the farmers decided to join forces! In 1915, the Potato Growers Cooperative was officially formed and through mergers and acquisitions, Agfinity was created.
Agriculture’s Future
More than 350 million acres of U.S. farmland are devoted to producing food and fiber for our country’s citizens. National Agriculture Month is a time to celebrate that fact! Not only do farmers provide us with food, but they also play a large role in our economy. Agriculture is the largest employer in the United States, with more than 23 million people employed in ag-related jobs.
Agriculture is also responsible for maintaining our natural resources and protecting our environment. Farmers are on the front line of conservation, and they work hard to ensure that we have clean water and healthy soil. National Agriculture Month is a time to celebrate the many ways that farmers contribute to our lives every day!
The Cooperative has remained committed to agriculture since 1905 and has evolved to serve the vast Colorado agriculture industries. As the Co-Op enters its second century, the enduring highlight of our history is that when farmers come together to support each other, everyone benefits.
Agfinity is #AgProud
At Agfinity, we love celebrating National Agriculture Month because we are a farmer-owned cooperative. It’s an honor to serve the farmers, ranchers, and agriculturists who make the most of the region as rich as it is rugged. We want to do everything we can to support ag producers in our community and help them succeed because that is Agfinity’s Cooperative Difference.
Our cooperative is #AgProud. And we’d like to say THANK YOU, to each and every member doing business with our farmer-owned cooperative. It’s an honor to serve you, happy National Agriculture Month!
