County fair season is nearly here! In the mix of the hustle and bustle of summer schedules, this is a chance to gather and celebrate with those in your local community. Whether your kids are showing livestock or you’re simply attending to get yourself your annual funnel cake, here are a few tips to make the most of this year’s county fair!
Know the guidelines
Whether you are a competitor or observer, it’s important to understand the guidelines of your local county fair, and we get it, that can be tough! A great place to start is to check your county fair’s website for an exhibitor guide. Typically, it will have a checklist of exactly what you need and any safety guidelines they would like everyone to follow.
For additional county fair questions, contact your local extension office by using the Colorado County Extension Office Directory.
Bring the essentials
Whether you’re participating or you’re enjoying the food and festivities of all the vendors, it’s vital that you pack the fair essentials which include:
- Sunscreen
- Cash
- Hand Sanitizer
- Stroller
- Water
- Comfortable Walking Shoes
These essential items ensure that the days spent at the county fair are a little more comfortable and enjoyable because you’ll have exactly what you need to make it through!
Show up early
One of the best ways to take in all that the county fair has to offer, is to show up early!
Beat the crowds and the heat to take in all the wonderful vendors and exhibits at your local county fair. If you’re participating, showing up early is a great way to be a part of the magic before you head to your event.
#CountyFairProud

To this year’s participants we like to say this, remember to finish strong. This is what you’ve been working for all year long. Those early mornings and late nights preparing your livestock, perfecting your grand champion muffin recipe, or triple checking your record books matter!
To this year’s observers (whether you are proud parents, grandparents, or community attendees) we’d like to say this, Cheer extra loud. Take tons of photos. And reveal the moments of this year’s county fair — it is sure to be one of those “good ole days” that life brings us all.
